Home About Us Our Program News/Events Volunteer How to Help Contact Us

F.R.E.E. is a volunteer organization. Volunteers enable us to serve children and adults with special needs. Whether your interest is in therapy or horses, there is a place for you in F.R.E.E.

What could I do?

There is no experience necessary! Check out these opportunities:

Working directly with horses

*Volunteers serve as horse leaders and side walkers, enabling the riders to participate                in class activities, including walking, trotting, stretching, games and more.

*Help exercise horses at the barn, clean stalls, groom, etc.

Serve on the Board or on a committee.

Is there training?

The only requirement is being a caring person who wants to help people with disabilities through equine-assisted activities. All volunteers working with horses and riders receive training for their positions. A detailed handbook is provided for all volunteers.

How much time is required?

Volunteers in therapeutic classes are asked to be available for at least one class each week during class sessions. There are spring, summer and fall sessions from March through October. Classes are scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and require 1-2 hours each. Volunteers get the horse ready, work with the rider in the arena and put the horse and tack away after class.

How do I get started?

Application here and mail to P.O. Box 272452, Ft.

As a volunteer it is very rewarding to provide a helping hand to riders who have special needs. It is even more rewarding when a rider recognizes you away from the arena and is so excited to see you.
